Frankenstein Lives!

Today, I have spent mostly tearing apart and rebuilding my machine...

I've the misfortune of having been loaned a case to use, which has now been taken away as the owner now has their own machine to put in it... which, incidentally, I have also been building today.

But things are never as simple as they appear, as with people, machines can be temperamental beatches too.

What initially looked like a simple swap, has ended with me having to use the same case which I bought some seven years ago now, when it then housed a P200 and still did until just over an hour ago...

But, this poor case has left my possession some 4 years hence. How, might you ask, did I come by it again? I asked myself that very same question each time I look down and see the horror which is the remnants of this unit, after having travelled it's way around many, many places with various people.

Whats shocking, is that the motherboard is a socket 7, for which I've got me an old Cyrix 300 chip I can put in it... and some old SDRAM...I plug it in and hello, I've got me a new file server... yummy indeed.

But, back to the main gripe for the day. I was given a load of parts, all of which assumed to be working by this person that took the case back. I have only just finished spending five hours testing, installing, de-installing, cleaning and growling at these bits, which mostly turned out to be junk.

The most annoying was the monitor which I was assured was good and all appears that way, until I decide that four (4) video cards can't be wrong and test the whole kit with my own monitor, meaning a transport of various bits of kit from one room to another...

I've two cuts, one scrape, a small bruise, an aching and sweating back and what have I to show for it?

A machine that could either be equated with Frankenstein or the Millenium Falcon. It really does look that bad. I guess I can do a photo tomorrow... It's a sight that anally retentive purists such as myself abhor, so ugly it is...

Well, I missed being online for all of tonight, so I'll probably just shower and hit my bed now...

It's the argument which drove Einstein to despair. Reconciling the General Theory of Relativity and Newtonian Motion with Quantum Physics.

Gravity binds the Galaxy together and holds all astronomical bodies in their paths through space, but it cannot affect sub-atomic particles. Once we reach such levels, there is no mass with which to create this force, so how is it that these particles of energy exist and hold together?

Quantum chromodynamics is one suggestion which is still based upon a fundamental attracting force, even though studies show that strong interaction via gluons was based upon the residual affect of this force and not actually by the force itself. The relatively new concept of colour force which acts upon the quarks and gluons is now seen as the acting power, but is undefinable in its nature and as to where this force originates.

The theory is of 'Quarks' making up the actuality of matter- Potentialities that cannot be observed unless one changes their motion and nature with a collision of a light photon against its parent proton.

And this is where I took a step back and looked at how light affects a particle and related it to a slightly metaphysical aspect.

Excuse this reference to the Torah, but, it is a relevant analogy for my hypothesis.

In the beginning, God said "Let there be Light". Before this was void, nothingness, as nothing could be observed without light, so nothing existed. Once light struck the first potential quark it came into being, for it was able to be observed and therefore was existant, or it would not have been observable and would not exist, essentially creating the "chicken and egg" scenario.

So, with Light bringing the potential for existence into being, we need only to look around us to know that light is bouncing around and through all matter everywhere. And that it is determining each atom's existence by its path through it. Not only that, but it determines the colour charge of the gluons and quarks which it affects.

Which would allow for me to say that Light itself tells the universe the location of each and every atom in existence at any given moment of time and subsequently defines it's colour charge characteristics, as determined by it's event location.

This allows for me to bring an abridgement of string theory into play, with the colour charge of a quark and gluon being dependent upon a scalar field of of properties determined reactively, relative to the location in space / time, which eliminates the need altogether for a 'binding' force and instead finds that the universe holds itself together because it does, otherwise it would not. I guess I'm just repeating that reality exists because it believes in itself, but from a scientific viewpoint.
